Avoid Travel Hiccups by Updating to the REAL ID Standard
As the deadline for the REAL ID Act approaches, Hunter Insurance wants to make sure that Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut residents understand the rules, deadlines, and requirements for meeting the new federal-standard for identification. At the recommendation of the 9/11 Commission, Congress passed the REAL ID Act in 2005 as part of an effort to improve safety and security at airports, federal facilities, and military bases. State and federal authorities say the new identification standard will help keep citizens safer. On October 1, 2020, individuals boarding international flights will need to present a REAL ID to TSA officials to get on their plane. The new identification standard is not mandatory since you can also use your US Passport, military card or other federally approved identification to board domestic flights, or enter secure federal or military sites. Arms dealers may also need to see a REAL ID for you to purchase firearms and ammunition.
