Hunter Insurance Announces American Flag Collection Drive in Support of Boy Scout Troop 1 of Manville’s Flag Retirement Ceremony

LINCOLN, R.I.  (May 15, 2019) —Hunter Insurance has announced that the agency will be accepting worn, damaged or unused American flags for Boy Scout Troop 1 of Manville, R.I. All flags collected will be properly disposed of by Troop 1 in a ceremonial flag burning on June 30th. A collection box is located at the Hunter Insurance office, 389 Old River Road in Manville, R.I., through June. According to the U.S. Flag Code, a ceremonial burning is the most proper way to retire the American flag, and Hunter Insurance is honored to join their local Boy Scout Troop in this patriotic show of respect for the nation’s colors. “We are pleased to once again support Troop 1 in ensuring that retired flags throughout our neighborhoods are disposed of in an honorable manner,” said Brian Hunter, president of Hunter Insurance. The Boy Scouts of America are one of the only organizations in the country that has official code for the retirement of the American Flag. These guidelines are outlined in the Boy Scouts of America handbook.
