Hunter Insurance Hosts Annual Community Shredding Event Aimed at helping consumers avoid identity theft

LINCOLN, R.I (April 11, 2019) — Our country has seen its fair share of data breaches in recent memory, but consumer protection begins at home. To help promote that message, Hunter Insurance will be hosting their annual Community Shredding Event on Saturday, April 27, at their office located at 389 Old River Road in Manville. The goal of this event is to help families safely dispose of sensitive information that could derail their financial plans if it ever got into the wrong hands.

“Families have spent years trying to repair the damage caused by identity theft,” said Brian Hunter, President of Hunter Insurance. “Victims have seen their credit scores decimated and their finances in turmoil because the wrong people got ahold of their information, which is why it is incredibly important for families to protect their personal information.”

Hunter Insurance has teamed up with a company dedicated to destroying documents to help make sure families’ sensitive information stays private. Shred-It, the world’s leading on-site document destruction company, will be on hand to assist Rhode Island residents dispose of their documents properly. Up to three boxes can be shredded per family.

Families are also encouraged to bring canned food items to the event, which will be donated to a local food pantry. “Whenever we have a lot of people together, our agency works hard to increase the impact of any given event. What better way to help strengthen the bonds that tie our community together than by sharing food with those in need,” Hunter said.

The event will run from 9 a.m. until noon.
